Ireland

Sunday 23rd August – Arriving in Cobh was exciting as we got a terrific welcome. We were off as soon as the ship docked and rented a car with a view to driving to Killarney, Cork and then Blarney Castle after which we wanted to have a look around Cobh. In the event we got a bit lost and ended up in Kinsale, a lovely little village where we explored, took some pictures, did a bit of shopping and had lunch. The cyclists in the Tour of Ireland went through the town while we were there which was quite interesting. After that it was into the countryside and off to Blarney – no luck as we missed the turn and were on our way back to Cobh. On our return Mason retired to a local Pub to taste the Guiness while Glen and Alice took the car back and I had a look around the town. Not able to find Mason in the hundreds (it seemed) of pubs I returned to the ship at 4pm with Mason not getting back till 5.30pm. The choir met on the deck at 5.15pm and sang a medley of Irish songs which were well received by the locals – we also sang along with the band as they exhausted their repertoire waiting for us to leave. It was cold and raining when we arrived but as we were leaving the sun came out. A naughty Kiwi nearly missed the boat arriving just two minutes before departure time at 6pm. Had tea at the buffet and then to bed.
Monday 24th August – Up late and breakfast in bed. Photo competition winners announced today and not a winner this time. Next segment the photo must be of buildings or architecture. Played bingo today as the jackpot had to be won and one number off $500.00 – bad luck! Said our goodbyes, to some of our new friends, as they will be leaving in Southampton. The production show tonight was very good – this group og dancers ad singers will be leaving in Southampton as well. Went to the final of “Dancing with the Stars”- 8 couples who were brave enough to be contestants. I hope I might get Mason to dancing classes next sector – would be nice to be able to dance competently together! Took a hot chocolate to our room and after this is finished will be off to bed. Could see the lights of France as we came to our room – we arrive in Le Havre 7am tomorrow then Southampton next day.
