Friday 14th August – Did not get to update last night as rather late when I came to bed and Mason was asleep. A quiet day yesterday beginning with a swim at 7.30am, a computer lecture then catching up with a fairly big wash after breakfast – Mason helped as I had to change for the choirs “showcase” at 12md. We sound really good now – must be all the practice we have done!!! Mason went to a talk on Boston while I went to Bingo – the jackpot had to go and I had only two numbers to go when it was struck - $2,700.00!! ‘Had Mike and Giovanna in for drinks, as they were leaving the ship today in NY, then dinner late. Glen, Alice and Mason went to bed but I wanted to see the crew talent show at 10pm which was quite good.
This morning we were up at 5.30am to see our arrival into New York – impressive and even more impressive as we left tonight. Had breakfast and ready to leave the ship at 7.30am – walked into town where we caught a bus at 9am and spent 4 hours doing the “downtown area. Had lunch and a little look at the shops then caught another bus for another 3 hours doing the “uptown area”. We had intended doing the Brooklyn loop as well but not enough time. What a huge place NY is – I would not like to live there – the crowds, the noise and the traffic would drive me nuts. Lots of young people around and you can see how exciting it would be for them. The height of the buildings and so many of them is amazing and surprisingly the sun does shine down between them. We were very moved by our visit to St Pauls Chapel, just in front of ground zero and have lots of photos. We are very tired tonight as we did a fair bit of walking and it was very hot – my ankles were quite swollen when we got back to the ship. Had a meal outside tonight and watched as we left at 8pm. Quite a lot of people left the ship here so a new lot of passengers to meet. Mason is asleep already and I need to get there too. We arrive in Newport,Rhode Island tomorrow which will be a more leisurely visit and a smaller city.
