Our day in Huatulco,Mexico

Monday 3rd August - Today we were in Huatulco, located along the Pacific coast of the state of Oaxaca in the south-eastern part of Mexico. It is 52 acres in size with a 22 mile coast consisting of 9 beautiful bays and over 36 beaches. Approximately 7,000 year round residents live in Huatulco. 70% of the bays are natural reserves and will never be developed. It is the only resort in Mexico that does not dump waste or black water into the sea and has three treatment plants. We arrived at 8am and were off the ship by 9am. We were lucky to find a taxi driver who could speak English and for $20 per person took us round and about for over 4 hours. We first did a drive out to look at the surrounding area and beaches then back into town for a look around the shops (Alice did some damage) then to a lovely beach for a swim – a very pleasant day. It was a short day ashore and we had to be back at the ship by 2.30pm as the Captain has a date at the Panama canal in two days time. The military presence was very noticeable as we moved around Huatulco. It was very hot so once back on the ship we had a nana nap until dinner time, opting just to go to the buffet this evening. We are back in our room now deciding what show we will go to – maybe the hypnotist at 10pm, if we can stay awake – or a spot of dancing. We are awaiting news of Cameron’s heart surgery today so will not be able to sleep till we hear from Justine. Two days at sea and we traverse the Panama Canal – August 6th 7am-4.30pm, our time – remember we are now 7 hours ahead and a day behind NZ time. You can go onto the Panama Canal website and see us go through if you are interested.
