We loved Newport

Saturday 15th August – Another early start as we arrived in Newport, Rhode Island at 8am. What a delightful spot this is, quite like Auckland with its harbour and the many boats sailing, motoring or just being moored. We wandered around the town looking at some of the shops but mainly looking at the buildings which are all years old and really retains its 18th-century look. Saw the lovely old, huge mansions, one of them owned by the Kennedy clan, as we left this evening. Jackie and John Kennedy were married here in Newport. Alice and Glen chose to do the cliff walk 3 miles or so each way – I was a bit stiff and sore from our adventures yesterday so decided to give it a miss. We planned to meet them for lunch but in the event they were late and we had already gone to “The Barking Crab”. Had a very nice lunch then wandered back to where the tender was to pick us up and waited till the queue had gone to get a ride back to the ship at 3.30pm. It was hot but the wind gave some relief. Back on board we went upstairs to the buffet for dinner then Mason and I went for a hot tub to ease the stiffness. Boston tomorrow at 10am so hope to get a swim in before that.
