Tuesday 1st September – Time is certainly ticking away – how will we ever be able to get back to making our own beds or cooking our own meals?!! This trip at times seems almost a dream – it has been amazing and we have seen so much. Today we arrived in Monte Carlo half an hour early at 8.30am. We had had breakfast and were ready to go. We walked into town and found the station, took a train to Nice (weren’t we brave and clever?) where we walked for miles – must have done over 5kms. Walked from the station to the port and around the coast to the swimming beaches – didn’t take our togs, damn it, but did have a paddle. Had lunch in the square and caught the tram to the station then train back to Monte Carlo arriving about 2.30pm. Saw a lovely beach – sandy- where we could have stopped off for a swim but, of course, no togs. Had a brief look around Monte Carlo – we have been here before – then back to the ship about 4pm absolutely exhausted. Ship left at 6pm. Needed a cold shower before dinner it was so hot – in the 30s- and then had a hot tub after to soothe my aching joints!! To bed as soon as I have finished this as we have an early start in the morning – we have hired a car and plan to visit some of the little villages around the port of Livorno – hope all goes well this time!!!
